That’s where a DPF delete can really help.Īside from reducing potential maintenance and vehicle downtime, there are several other benefits to a Caterpillar DPF delete. This can lead to costly repairs and vehicle downtime, which cut into an owner-operator or fleet manager’s bottom line. When the DPF clogs, the engine can also suffer damage. If regeneration cannot occur the way it’s designed, the DPF can clog.
Noting this, it’s difficult for many vehicles to reach the conditions that regeneration requires to take place. The process, however, can take up to 45 minutes to complete – and it’s necessary about every 300 miles or so. In order to reach these high temperatures, vehicles need to be traveling at over 45 miles per hour and then stay at those speeds consistently throughout the process. The DPF is cleaned via a process known as “regeneration,” which requires high temperatures to occur. Like we said in the opening, the DPF tends to be a very problematic component, and much of this has to do with how it’s cleaned.
